It's hard to believe I've been here two weeks already... Though I have not been homesick yet (knock on wood), I will be very happy to return to Vermont. I've got to say, it just feels ridiculous, February without snow. It was pretty cold (for being Newcastle). I had breakfast with Kate and Jen, then I had to head over to my only class of the day: Faith, Reason, and the Cosmos. I really enjoy this class and my professor who sports the Albert Einstein hair-do. We compared the Judeo-Christian creation story to that of the Greeks, which were oddly similar with only the obvious differences. After class, I ventured downtown to kill some two hours and shop before meeting up with Jen. I found the cutest dress to wear out for my birthday (I will obviously post pictures this weekend), and it was on sale! While looking for a dress, I was trying to find something that would help me blend in with the other club-goers, but I also wanted it to be something i could use when I return home. So, as usual, my dress is a little fancier than what is normally worn to the club, but I fell in love with the dress, so I didn't have an option; it was mine. After shopping I headed back to the Student Union building, met up with Jen and another American student where they bought their bracelets for the event tonight that I skipped out on because I love sleep and have early class tomorrow morning. The three of us walked downtown so the girls could find cheap, white shirts for the UV paint at the party tonight. Then, we made our way over to the big Tesco grocery store, where I shopped to feed myself for weeks. I finally got the pasta and tortilla chips I've been craving, and, of course, you can never have too much peanut butter, so I bought another jar for when I need it. Buying tons of food was great in the theory that I wouldn't have to return as soon, however, it made for a very very long and painful walk back to the dorms. This store was further from campus, so it was quite the walk with plenty of complaining. We were so relieved to get to the dorm, only to find my name on the 'Parcels list' ... yeah, right, like I could add a box to my armful, but I did, barely. I made it back to my door and dropped everything to the floor so I could find my key. Kate and Louise think Jen and I bought the whole Tesco, it's quite possible by the heavieness of my backpack and the bags I had to carry as well. In my defense, one of the bags I was carrying was my new bowl and mug I bought so I could actually eat in my room on the weekends. After 2 hours of relaxing my hunched back, we went to dinner: Fish and chips! I feel so british... In fact, I already speak it:
Here are a few terms I have learned:
