Day 11

What a day it has been... After sleeping in from the night out, Kate, Jenn, some other exchange students, and I left campus around 1:00 PM, making our way down to the Haymarket Metro. We bought out day pass tickets and took a ride to Tynemouth. Just from walking to the Metro we could tell it was not going to be pleasant weather-wise. We got off at our stop to find there was a market occurring at the station, so we all took our time to look around. When we were ready to make it to the coast, we left the station and realized we had absolutely no idea how to get there, so we just started walking in the direction we thought it could possibly be. We ventured down a few roads and, finally, we could see the coast, but how to get there? There was clearly a path to walk down, but we couldn't find how to get to the path, so we climbed over a wall and walked down a rocky hill to the path below. It was freezing. It was about -1 degrees Celcius and raining, though by the time the rain physically hit us, it was ice. We all took pictures, a ton of them, but it was getting so difficult with our hands turning red and barely being able to function because of the cold. I think I'd be exaggerating if I said we stayed down at the coast for about 10 minutes. We were so freezing we headed into town in search of a coffeehouse, though any place indoors would suffice. We warmed up over hot beverages, then marched into the cold toward the castle. It was incredible to see and photograph. We were quickly ready to wait for the metro back to campus and took the long walk back to campus. Due to the rain, the pathways were frozen, which would explain why Kate and my fast-walks were getting us nowhere faster, in fact, it felt as if we weren't even moving.
We made it back and headed straight for the warm showers, pajamas, and dinners heated in the microwave. After a bit of alone time, Jen decided we needed to watch Tangled with Kate, which we all know I couldn't pass up and opportunity to watch Tangled. We went to Kate's room and tried to start my DVD, but her European computer could not read my American DVD.. It was the strangest thing and I don't quite understand. This minor obstacle lead us to my room to watch Tangled where Kate, Jen, and I talked and laughed throughout the movie. When it finished, Louise came in to visit as well. I turned on my iTunes and the girls read through my american Cosmopolitan magazines. It was a great bonding experience. And the completely understood when I kicked them out so I could skype with Matt, though they were all ready to lay down themselves.

Today was amazing. Even with the insane coldness, I wouldn't have changed a thing about today; I have no regrets. Sometimes it is fun to freeze and really appreciate the warmth of showers, pajamas, an friendship.

Plan for tomorrow: Slothing* and possible Harry Potter marathon

*Slothing is a british slang term which means to do nothing all day. It is unacceptable to change out of your pajamas and, in most cases, leave the building. You may leave to get food, but I have been informed you must still be wearing pajamas.
Hahaha, I love it here.
